Bhopal - A Prayer for Rain Opens November 7 in NY

Opening in U.S. theaters one month before releasing in India, the acclaimed social thriller BHOPAL – A PRAYER FOR RAIN starring Martin Sheen, Kal Penn, and Mischa Barton debuts exclusively in New York City on November 7 at Village East Cinema and will open in additional cities throughout November. Based on the Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984, the much-awaited film has already won raves from critics and audiences alike at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Pan Asia Film Festival in London. The impressive cast also features riveting performances from Tannishtha Chatterjee, Rajpal Yadav, and Satish Kaushik.

Writer-director Ravi Kumar sent the script to a raft of heavyweight Hollywood actors. He wanted to interest a powerful name in playing the key role of Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson. Martin Sheen, a high-profile human rights and environmental activist as well as one of Hollywood’s most respected actors, was intrigued. “I knew about Bhopal when it happened,” Sheen says. “It was horrifying. We couldn’t believe the extent of the death and destruction. A friend of mine presented me the script and said, 'Is there any possibility…?' and I said 'Absolutely.'”
